We are PCS

Person County School District includes Roxboro and surrounding communities within Person County . Our small county allows us to have a great communication network across the district. Our family is supportive and collaborative. You will feel welcome wherever you go!

Mission

Preparing students for success in a changing world.

Vision

Our graduates are prepared to deal with the challenges of the 21st Century. Our graduates have the critical thinking, communicative, collaborative, and creative skills necessary for problem solving. Because we expect and develop leadership at every level, we take on the challenges before us with passion and willingness to accept and tackle those problems. Industry recognizes the literal, social and technical skills our graduates exhibit. Local universities recruit our students because of their solid educational foundation. Person County students are service-oriented citizens willing to give back to our local and extended community.

BEGINNING TEACHER PROGRAM & MENTORS

BEGINNING TEACHER INDUCTION PROGRAM

It is the desire of the Person County Schools' to provide novice teachers with the assistance needed to ensure their success in teaching. In an effort to do this, Person County Schools has implemented a Beginning Teacher Support Program for new teachers. A Director of Teacher Support is available to assist the new teachers in several capacities. The Director of Teacher Support works directly with the Chief Human Resources Officer to provide district-level support for novice teachers. Beginning Teachers meet monthly with the Director of Teacher Support for professional development. The Director of Teacher Support also informally observes and visits new teachers on a regular basis. However, the most important assistance that is provided to beginning teachers comes from mentors serving each beginning teacher.

NEW EDUCATOR ORIENTATION

All first-year teachers/new hires are provided a three-day orientation in August. During the orientation, professional development is conducted in areas such as classroom management, time management, and curriculum and instruction.

MENTOR PROGRAM

The major goal of Person County Schools' mentoring program is to provide trained mentors who carry out the following tasks:

  • Facilitate the adjustment and success of novice teachers
  • Support and encourage novice teachers
  • Act as positive role models for new teachers
  • Share with novice teachers the objectives, culture, and expectations of the school and school system
  • Promote professional growth, self-confidence, and success on the part of the novice teacher
  • Assist the novice teacher in developing decision-making skills
  • Assist the novice teacher in lesson planning, classroom management, discipline, time management, teaching strategies, motivation, and other areas

It provides an innovative way to streamline the hiring process. Applicants will experience an enhanced, more user-friendly system when applying for positions. To apply for a career opportunity, click on the link below.

If you have previously completed an application with the Person County School System and are still interested in employment opportunities, you will need to complete an application using TalentEd to be considered for employment. Applications completed in the old application system will not be migrated over with the new application system.

If you need support or have questions about the TalentEd application system, visit the FAQ section by clicking here. If this does not answer your question, please call us at 336-599-2191.

The Interview and Employment Process

When vacancies occur, interviews are arranged with selected applicants holding proper qualifications. The principal/hiring administrator screens applications and selects eligible candidates for interview. After interviewing these candidates, the principal/hiring administrator and his/her interview team makes a recommendation to the Chief Human Resources Officer. Official offers of employment are extended from the Human Resources Office.
